5 Nail Trends That Will Dominate Fall, From Dot Designs to Autumnal Auras

The transition from summer to fall is an iconic one. Suddenly, the world houses more visual depth as colors become richer and looks a touch more nuanced. This is true of the changing leaves, autumnal outfits, and the season’s nail trends.

“Fall is all about layering and texture, and nails are no different,” says 3D nail artist Britney Tokyo. Along with moodier hues and neutrals that feel as cool and cozy as the season demands, Tokyo notes that fall nails in general feel artful and full of dimension.

Metallic finishes like chrome, along with diminutive dots and aura orbs, offer options at once playful and sophisticated, broadening the scope of what nail art can be. The best part? Each application approach comes with an open invitation to get creative and make the mani entirely your own.

Here, explore five fall nail trends set to define this year’s seasonal vibe.

Next Level Metallics

Fall’s metal-inspired manicures are individual and elevated. Whether you prefer yours minimal (nail artist Steph Stone is loving single, well-placed silver stars) or a touch more exaggerated, shiny metallics are a main player this autumn.

“Metallic finishes are having a fashion moment, and nails are the easiest way to bring that futuristic yet sophisticated vibe into everyday style,” says Tokyo, who expects chrome and scintillating details to find fans this season. “Layer chrome powder over deep fall shades like navy or burgundy, or add a metallic accent just on the tips for a chic, dimensional look.”

Chocolate Brown

Deep browns of the chocolate and espresso variety will lead the palette parade this fall. “Rich, warm browns are everywhere right now and I’m so on board for it,” says Stone, adding that the neutrals provide the perfect transition away from summer’s more vivid shades.

Plus, deep brown is just cool. “It’s elegant, versatile, and ties in perfectly with the season’s fashion palette,” says Tokyo. She notes that the color is rich enough to stand alone, but also plays well with other fall nail trends (tiny tips, high-shine finishes, and minimalist detailing among them).

Micro French

Stone calls this trend “tiny but mighty.” The French of the moment is teensy enough as to be barely, there, the minimalist approach making a major statement. Opt for deep tones or metallics to match the season, or subvert expectations with a slice of whatever shade resonates. And if you’re attempting a micro French at home? Invest in a striper brush for a clean and meticulous tip.

Aura Nails

Aura nails and their dreamy multi-tonal makeup are a 2025 mainstay—and that includes autumn. While the orb-inspired designs are easily matched to the time of year with some strategic shade selection, freshening up your aura for fall can look like adding a frame around the ethereal blots for an aura photography ode, or relegating the trippy glow to the tips of your nails for an aura French.

Dot Designs

If you find yourself craving a manicure that’s chic, timeless, and still directly on the pulse, a simple polka dot design will do.

“Dots feel playful but minimal at the same time—a modern twist on classic nail art that works in both casual and high-fashion settings,” says Tokyo. She suggests starting with a nude or sheer base, adding dots of block or gold for a sleek effect (even a single dot will do). “For a more fun take, mix colors and sizes across nails,” she says.
